Free LPG Heating Cost Calculator
Calculate your metered Liquefied petroleum gas costs, compare suppliers, and discover potential savings
Calculate your metered Liquefied petroleum gas costs, compare suppliers, and discover potential savings
Our free LPG calculator is specifically designed for customers on metered LPG estates with bulk tanks, helping you understand your heating costs and identify potential savings. Whether you're with Calor Gas, Flogas, or another supplier, our tool provides accurate calculations based on your actual meter readings and boiler specifications.
Please note: This calculator is for metered LPG systems only and does not cover LPG bottles or cylinders. If you live on a metered development with a communal LPG supply and receive bills based on meter readings, this tool is perfect for you.

*LPG gas meters are typically read in m³ rather than litres. The calculator will work out the amount of litres you have used based on your m³ reading.
LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) is significantly more expensive than mains gas, typically costing 2-3 times more per unit of energy. This is due to several factors including transportation costs, storage requirements, and the smaller market size compared to natural gas.
LPG requires specialised transportation, storage tanks, and infrastructure. Unlike mains gas which flows through underground pipes directly from processing plants, LPG must be transported by tanker trucks to storage facilities and then to individual estates. This transportation cost is built into the price, increasing costs significantly. The LPG market is much smaller than the natural gas market, meaning economies of scale are limited. Suppliers have higher per-customer costs for billing, maintenance, and customer service.
Metered LPG systems on estates offer better value than individual bottles. You pay only for what you use, typically at rates 40-60% lower than bottled gas, making it the preferred choice for permanent heating systems for houses. LPG systems require specialised storage tanks, pressure regulation equipment, and safety systems. The maintenance and rental costs for this infrastructure are reflected in your bills. With bulk supply, there's no need to monitor gas levels, arrange deliveries, or store heavy cylinders. The supply is managed centrally with automatic deliveries when needed.
LPG consumption varies dramatically with seasons. Winter usage can be 80% higher than summer months due to increased heating demands and reduced boiler efficiency in cold weather. You could consider switching to another heating and hot water source, such as a heat pump, which can be up to three to four times more efficient than LPG.
Our calculator uses industry-standard conversion rates and real-world efficiency data to provide accurate cost projections. Here's what makes our tool unique:
Uses the standard rate of 1m³ = 3.85 litres of LPG and 1 litre = 7.08 kWh of energy for precise calculations.
Factors in actual boiler efficiency based on age, including real-world performance with cycling and partial loads.
Calculates annual costs considering 80% higher usage during winter months for accurate yearly estimates.
Shows potential savings from switching suppliers, helping you make informed decisions about your energy provider.
Calculates your carbon footprint and shows the environmental impact of your heating choices.
Small price differences have huge annual impacts. A supplier charging just 5p per litre less could save the average household £200-£400 annually. By adding different prices into our calculator, you can see potential savings from switching suppliers, helping you make informed decisions about your energy costs.
Regular boiler maintenance, proper insulation, and smart heating controls can reduce consumption by 15-25%. For properties with older boilers, upgrading to a modern condensing system typically pays for itself within 5-7 years through reduced fuel costs.
